Trusting God Through Life's Upheavals: A Journey of Resilience, Faith, and New Beginnings

At Bless It Forward, I’ve always been open about the highs and lows of my Christian faith. Now I feel ready to share this blog with you all—my journey of resilience, faith, and new beginnings. I learnt four and half years ago, life can change in an instant, reshaping everything we once thought was certain. After 18 years of marriage ended, 22 years in a relationship, I found myself standing in the middle of a storm—waves of grief, uncertainty, fear, and even faint glimmers of hope crashing all at once. It is a season that tests the heart deeply, where familiar foundations seem to crumble and the future feels unclear.

Yet even in all the upheaval, there was an invitation to lean more fully on God. Trusting Him is not easy when prayers feel heavy and answers seem distant, but His presence remains constant. Scripture reminds us that He is close to the brokenhearted and faithful to carry us through every valley. In moments when strength runs dry, His grace becomes sufficient, and His peace—beyond all understanding—begins to guard our hearts.

This journey through loss and rebuilding is not just about endings, but also about transformation. It is about learning to surrender what was, placing each uncertain step into God’s hands, and allowing Him to gently shape what comes next. Along the way, there are challenges that stretch faith and moments that require courage we didn’t know we had. But there are also quiet, unexpected blessings—glimpses of God’s goodness, new beginnings, and a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him.

Though the road may feel lonely at times, it is never walked alone. God remains the steady anchor in the storm, guiding, restoring, and reminding us that even in endings, He is always at work bringing forth something new.

Facing Emotional Challenges After a Long Marriage Ends

The ending of a marriage that has spanned more than two decades can feel like the unravelling of a shared life, a covenant once held sacred now brought to a close. It is not merely the loss of a relationship, but the loss of routines, dreams, identity, and the vision of a future you once believed was God-ordained. In such a season, the heart often carries a weight that words can scarcely capture, and the emotional and spiritual challenges can feel deeply overwhelming.

Grief and profound sense of loss: You may find yourself mourning not only the person, but the life you built together—the prayers you prayed, the hopes you nurtured, and the years invested in love and commitment. This grief can come in waves, sometimes gentle, sometimes consuming. In these moments, it can be helpful to remember that Scripture honours mourning, reminding us that “the Lord is close to the brokenhearted.”

Fear of the unknown and uncertain future: After so many years of shared direction, stepping into the unknown can feel frightening. Questions may arise about provision, purpose, and what lies ahead. Yet, faith gently calls you to trust that even when the path is unclear, God’s presence remains constant, guiding each step even when you cannot yet see the destination.

Loneliness and the ache of separation: The silence left behind can feel heavy, especially after years of companionship. Ordinary moments—meals, conversations, daily routines—may now carry a sense of absence. In this solitude, there is also an invitation, however difficult, to rediscover God’s companionship in a deeper way, to experience His nearness not just in joy, but in sorrow.

Self-doubt and questions of worth: It is common to wrestle with thoughts that challenge your value, your identity, and your ability to move forward. You may wonder what could have been done differently or whether you are enough. In these moments, anchoring your identity in your faith can be a steadying truth—that your worth is not defined by the outcome of a relationship, but by being created, known, and loved by God.

These emotions are not signs of weakness; they are part of the human experience of loss. Allowing yourself to feel them fully is not a failure of faith, but an expression of honesty before God. Throughout Scripture, we see that lament and trust often walk hand in hand.

Faith does not remove the pain or bypass the process of healing. Instead, it offers something quieter but enduring: the assurance that your suffering is not without meaning, that God can bring restoration in ways you may not yet understand, and that even in endings, He is still at work, gently shaping a new beginning.

Living in a Sister’s Dining Room for Nine Months

One of the most humbling chapters of my journey was spending nine months living in my

sister’s dining room. It was a small, temporary space, yet it became a place where God quietly began restoring my life—piece by piece.

Learning to live with less: In that limited space, I was gently taught to let go of excess and embrace simplicity. Daily life became less about what I had, and more about recognizing God’s provision in even the smallest comforts.

Receiving help with humility: Leaning on my family was not easy at first. Pride had to soften. But through their generosity, I saw a reflection of Christ’s love—gracious, patient, and freely given. I began to understand that accepting help can also be an act of faith.

Discovering God in the ordinary: There was a quiet holiness in those months. Morning light through the window, shared meals around the table, and moments of stillness became reminders that God is present in the everyday. What once felt ordinary began to feel sacred.

Preparing for what comes next: This season was not just about surviving—it was about preparing. I used that time to pray, to plan, and to trust that God was already making a way forward, even when I couldn’t yet see it.

Looking back, those nine months shaped me in ways I didn’t expect. They taught me patience, strengthened my faith, and reminded me that God’s timing is always purposeful. Even in waiting, He is at work.

Job Searching and the Role of Faith

Job searching in the middle of a life transition can feel overwhelming, especially when uncertainty about income and the future begins to weigh heavily. The pressure to stay afloat—financially, emotionally, and spiritually—can be intense. In those moments, faith becomes more than a comfort; it becomes an anchor.

Rejection is often one of the hardest parts of the process. Applications go unanswered, interviews don’t always lead to offers, and it’s easy to internalize those outcomes. But through a Christ-centred perspective, I’ve been learning to see rejection differently—not as a reflection of my worth, but as redirection. What isn’t meant for me is just as important as what is.

Staying motivated when opportunities seem limited requires intentional trust. There were days when discouragement crept in, when it felt like doors were staying closed. In those moments, I leaned into prayer—not just asking for opportunities, but for endurance, patience, and a renewed mindset. Trusting that God is working behind the scenes, even when I can’t see immediate results, has been essential.

Seeking guidance through prayer has helped me move forward with clarity rather than fear. Instead of trying to control every outcome, I’ve been learning to ask for direction—trusting that the right opportunities will align in the right time.

I’ve also come to appreciate the importance of celebrating small wins. A response to an application, a meaningful conversation, an interview invitation—each one became a reminder that progress was happening, even if slowly. Gratitude for those moments helped shift my focus from lack to provision.

Faith, in this season, has become a daily practice. It’s a choice to trust over worry, to move forward despite uncertainty, and to believe that God’s plan is greater than any fear or setback. Step by step, it has kept me grounded, reminding me to focus not on the entire path ahead, but on the next faithful step forward.

Financial Worries and God’s Provision

One of my greatest concerns during that season was whether I would ever be able to afford a place of my own. The vision of having even a small, humble home felt far beyond my reach—almost like a distant hope rather than a tangible reality. At times, the uncertainty weighed heavily on my heart, yet I was continually reminded to anchor myself in faith rather than fear.

I learned to approach my circumstances with diligence and wisdom, stewarding every resource carefully, stretching what I had, and prioritising only what was truly necessary. In doing so, I was practicing not only financial discipline but also faithful stewardship, recognizing that all provision ultimately comes from God.

More importantly, I was called to trust—truly trust—in God’s provision. This meant surrendering my anxieties and believing that He would supply my needs in His perfect timing, just as Scripture reminds us that He cares for us and knows what we require even before we ask.

In time, what once seemed unattainable became reality. I found a modest and affordable place to live—a home that, while simple, felt deeply like a gift from God. It was not extravagant, but it was sufficient, peaceful, and filled with a sense of divine blessing that far exceeded material expectations.

With that came a profound sense of gratitude. Having a stable place to call my own brought not only physical security but also emotional and spiritual reassurance. It became a daily reminder of God’s faithfulness and care.

Through this journey, I came to understand more deeply that God’s provision often arrives in ways we do not anticipate. It may not align with our original vision, but it is always purposeful and enough for what we need. In His wisdom, He provides not just for our circumstances, but for the growth of our faith as well.

Lessons from the Silence: Redefining Christian Friendship

There is a quiet unveiling that happens in the midst of hardship—one that reveals not just the strength of our own faith, but the truth about the people we have called friends. In easier seasons, companionship can feel abundant. Laughter is shared, conversations flow, and support seems assumed. But when life becomes heavy, when trials press in and the soul feels worn, the presence—or absence—of others begins to speak more loudly than words ever could.

I found myself in such a season, expecting that those I had walked alongside would now walk with me. I believed that the friendships I had invested in would naturally respond with care, prayer, and presence. Yet, as the days stretched on, the silence from many was deafening. Messages went unanswered. Invitations for support were overlooked. It was not hostility that hurt the most, but absence—the quiet realization that some who had once stood near were no longer willing to stand at all.

This experience stirred a deeper question within me: what does true Christian friendship look like? It is easy to associate shared beliefs or church attendance with spiritual closeness, but hardship has a way of refining definitions. Scripture points us toward a love that is active, sacrificial, and enduring—a love that reflects Christ Himself. “Carry each other’s burdens,” we are told, “and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.” Yet I began to see that not everyone who walks beside you in comfort is prepared to carry weight with you in suffering.

Still, God, in His faithfulness, did not leave me without support. In the midst of disappointment, He revealed something precious: even if many fall away, one faithful friend can be a profound expression of His care. This friend did not offer grand gestures or perfect words, but something far more meaningful—consistency, presence, and genuine compassion. They listened without judgment, prayed without ceasing, and reminded me of God’s promises when I struggled to hold onto them myself.

Through this friendship, I caught a glimpse of Christ’s love in action. It was not conditional or convenient; it was steadfast. It showed me that true Christian friendship is not measured by how many stand around you, but by who remains when standing is difficult. It is less about shared moments of joy and more about shared burdens, less about words spoken in passing and more about love demonstrated in persistence.

Though the pain of unmet expectations lingered, it also became a place of growth. I learned to place less reliance on people’s consistency and more trust in God’s unchanging nature. I began to understand that while human relationships may falter, God often works through even one faithful person to remind us that we are not alone.

In the end, the season did not just reveal who my friends were—it clarified what friendship, rooted in Christ, is meant to be. And for that, even in the midst of hardship, I am grateful.

The Unexpected Joy of Meeting a New Partner

Just when I believed my journey was defined only by loss, surrender, and the long road of rebuilding, the Lord, in His tender mercy, opened my heart to a new and unforeseen chapter. In His perfect timing, I encountered someone whose presence felt not accidental, but prayerfully ordained—a quiet yet powerful reminder that God’s plans are always at work, even when unseen.

A Meeting by Divine Appointment: What seemed at first like chance revealed itself to be something far deeper: a sacred crossing of paths, guided by God’s hand. In this connection, I sensed His intentionality—a reassurance that I was not forgotten, but lovingly led toward restoration.

Healing Through Godly Companionship: Through this relationship, the Lord has brought comfort, encouragement, and renewed joy. In shared moments of laughter and understanding, I have experienced His healing touch, working gently through companionship to mend what was once broken.

A Foundation of Shared Faith: At the heart of this bond lies a mutual love for Christ—a cornerstone that strengthens and sustains us. Together, we seek to grow in faith, to walk in obedience, and to build a relationship rooted not merely in emotion, but in trust, prayer, and spiritual unity.

Renewed Hope for the Future: With humility and discernment, I embrace this new love as a gift from God. While mindful of the past, I choose to step forward in faith, trusting that He who began a good work will carry it to completion. There is hope again—not naive, but anchored in His promises.

This relationship has not erased what came before, but it has woven a new thread of grace into my story. It stands as a testimony that even in seasons of upheaval, God is faithful to bring beauty from ashes and to lead us into new beginnings filled with purpose, peace, and quiet joy.

Reflections on Love, Resilience, and Faith

Looking back across the winding path of upheaval, I can see that what once felt like disruption was, in truth, a sacred season of shaping. God was at work in the hidden places—refining, strengthening, and gently drawing me closer to Him. Trusting God was never a passive surrender, but a daily, sometimes moment-by-moment decision to place my hope in His promises rather than my circumstances. It meant choosing faith when answers were unclear, and leaning into His presence when the ground beneath me felt unsteady.

Love endures: Even when earthly chapters come to a close, the love that God pours into our hearts does not fade. His love is steadfast, unchanging, and eternal. It teaches us to release what was, while still honoring its meaning. In every ending, His love remains—a constant reminder that nothing given in love is ever truly lost.

Resilience builds character: Trials are not without purpose. Scripture reminds us that perseverance produces character, and character produces hope. In कठिन moments, God strengthens our inner being, teaching us patience, humility, and endurance. What feels like breaking is often the very process through which He is rebuilding us into something stronger and more Christlike.

Faith sustains: Faith becomes an anchor in the storm—a quiet assurance that God is present, even when He seems silent. It offers peace that surpasses understanding and hope that reaches beyond what we can see. Through faith, we learn to trust not in outcomes, but in the goodness and sovereignty of God Himself.

If you are walking through your own season of upheaval, take heart. You are not alone. The God who calls you is faithful, and He walks beside you in every uncertainty. Trusting Him does not promise an easy road, but it does promise His presence—a steady hand to guide you, a firm foundation beneath you, and a faithful love that will never let you go.
